The Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency Program at United Regional Health Care System in Wichita Falls, Texas is a 12-month program designed to prepare residents to become proficient, independent pharmacy clinical practitioners in diverse clinical practice settings. Upon completion of the program, residents will be eligible for board certification and for postgraduate practice.

Program Overview

Benefits of the program

Rotations

Required Learning Experience  

  • Orientation (5 weeks)  
  • Pharmacy operation (4 weeks)  
  • Internal medicine I & II (4 weeks each)  
  • Critical care I & II (4 weeks each)  
  • Emergency medicine (4 weeks)  
  • Antimicrobial stewardship (4 weeks)  
  • Pharmacy informatics (4 weeks)  
  • Pharmacy administration (4 weeks)  

Elective Learning Experience 

  • Retail/meds-2-beds pharmacy 
  • Women & children (NICU Level III) 
  • Oncology/infusion pharmacy 
  • Emergency medicine II 
  • Etc.

Elective Rotation

  • Total parenteral nutrition (4 weeks)
  • Repeat required concentrated rotation (4 weeks each)

Longitudinal Learning Experience

  • Pharmacy staffing (Every 3rd weekend)  
  • Pharmacy sducation (August to June, once a month)  
  • Major project (52 weeks, clinical/safety) 
  • Minor project (52 weeks, operational/quality)   
  • Pharmacy clinical practice and medication safety management (12 weeks, once a week)  
  • Pharmacy operation management (12 weeks, once a week) 
  • Antimicrobial stewardship (September to June, once a week) 

Staffing

Residents must obtain a Pharmacist License within eight weeks of beginning the program. After licensure, residents will be required to staff eight hours a week.
