Graduate Nurse Residency Program

Eligibility Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited associate (ADN) or baccalaureate (BSN) nursing program
  • Must be a new graduate and have less than 1 year experience
  • Current CPR/BLS –Healthcare Provider card

What is the application process?

Applications will be accepted February 9-20 for Internal & External applicants. 
To apply, please submit your application under the requisition titled “Nurse Resident.”

The current practice settings included in this accreditation designation are: Medical-Surgical, Step Down, Critical Care, Labor & Delivery, Ante/Postpartum, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Pediatrics, and Emergency Department

The Graduate Nurse Residency Program is a yearlong residency built upon evidence-based Vizient/AACN curriculum. During the program, nurse residents will participate in a series of learning and work experiences that are geared toward transition to a competent professional. At the end of the program, nurse residents will have improved confidence, competence, prioritization, communication skills, and decreased stress levels.

Program objectives

Upon completion of the nurse residency program, the nurse resident will:

  • Make the transition from advanced beginner nurse to competent professional nurse in the clinical environment
  • Develop effective decision-making skills related to clinical judgment and performance
  • Provide clinical nursing leadership at the point of care
  • Strengthen his or her commitment to nursing as a professional career choice
  • Formulate an individual development plan for his or her new clinical role
  • Incorporate research-based evidence linked to practice outcomes into the care he or she provides
