Shahab Akvan, MD

Dr. Shahab Akvan is a board-certified cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon with United Regional Physician Group.

Dr. Akvan completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Florida before earning his medical degree from Drexel University in Philadelphia. He went on to complete his residency at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, and pursued fellowship training at the Texas Heart Institute and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. During his time in Houston, Dr. Akvan also gained valuable experience in caring for patients with thoracic cancer through training at the renowned MD Anderson Cancer Center. Additionally, Dr. Akvan obtained advanced training in complex vascular procedures, including open aortic surgery and endovascular aneurysm repair, in Longview, TX.

Even after more than a decade in practice, he remains inspired each time he sees a heart beating and feels honored to help patients during some of the most critical moments of their lives. Dr. Akvan is known for his unwavering dedication and personal investment in his patients’ outcomes. He understands the gravity of his role and takes pride in being fully present when concerns arise. His approach is defined by compassion, accountability, and a commitment to giving his absolute best.

Outside of work, Dr. Akvan is a devoted husband; he’s a father to two daughters who are active in sports. He values being a hands-on parent and enjoys staying active himself by going to the gym several times a week. With his parents also living in Wichita Falls, family time is a central part of his life.
