Dr. Mikko Peter Tauriainen is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon with United Regional Physician Group.
Dr. Tauriainen completed his undergraduate education, medical degree, and surgical internship at the University of Toronto in Toronto, ON. He completed his general surgery training at the University of Manitoba, where he also conducted research and earned a master's degree in science. Following an additional year of research, he completed his residency and fellowship training in thoracic surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX. His extensive training provided a strong foundation in the surgical treatment of complex conditions involving the heart, lungs, and chest.
Dr. Tauriainen knew from an early age that he wanted to become a physician. During medical school, a surgical elective sparked his passion for the operating room, and he later discovered cardiothoracic surgery during his general surgery residency. He was drawn to the specialty's unique combination of technical skill, problem-solving, and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in patients' lives.
Caring for patients during some of their most critical moments is a responsibility Dr. Tauriainen considers both a privilege and an honor. He is grateful for the opportunity to help patients through complex health conditions and is dedicated to providing the highest quality care possible. Guided by humility, compassion, and years of experience, he works closely with patients and their families to make informed decisions and achieve the best possible outcomes.
Having previously cared for patients in Wichita Falls from 2000 to 2011, Dr. Tauriainen has a longstanding connection to the community. He and his wife raised their two sons here and built many lasting friendships throughout the community. Outside of medicine, he enjoys cycling, walking, tennis, pickleball, golf, and spending time on the water with family and friends. He is proud to once again serve the Wichita Falls community.
