Dr. Alan Coleman, United Regional Physician Group Trauma Surgeon, is board-certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care.

Dr. Coleman earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of North Texas in Denton, TX, before completing medical school at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, TX, where he also remained for his general surgery residency. His training included two years of research and additional professional endeavors at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. He went on to complete a Surgical Critical Care fellowship through Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Ohio State University, in Columbus, OH, further strengthening his expertise in managing complex and critically ill patients.

Driven by an early interest in science and biology, Dr. Coleman was drawn to medicine for its unique balance of intellectual challenge and meaningful patient impact. His experiences during training led him to discover a passion for surgery, as the fast paced, hands on nature of the field and the ability to directly impact a patient’s recovery ultimately guided him toward trauma and acute care surgery, supported by mentorship from surgeons across multiple specialties.

In his practice, Dr. Coleman values the unique challenge of trauma and acute care surgery, that each patient’s condition and path to recovery require an individualized approach. He enjoys the combination of technical skill, critical thinking, and adaptability required to treat complex conditions, recognizing that similar diagnoses can present and respond very differently. His approach emphasizes clear communication, individualized treatment, and a strong sense of responsibility to each patient and their family. Dr. Coleman also serves as Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Medical Director and Wound Care Medical Director, roles that reflect his commitment to clinical excellence and leadership within United Regional Health Care System.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Coleman enjoys working out, gardening, traveling, and spending time with his family. He and his wife, Karen, have two sons, Evan and Miles, who are active in academics, band, and tennis. Dr. Coleman values the small town feel of Wichita Falls, TX, appreciating the strong sense of community, shorter commutes, and meaningful connections with neighbors and colleagues.
