When Kayly Smith’s four-year-old son, Baylor, began choking after swallowing a small object, she and her husband rushed him to United Regional’s Emergency Department. Dr. Kristen Marks, an Emergency Medicine Physician at United Regional, immediately adapted her approach to Baylor’s limited language skills, personally performing his vitals and engaging with him directly. The care team responded with empathy and flexibility, easing Baylor’s distress and ensuring he received the attention he needed. “Our recent visit to United Regional was the best patient care my son has ever received,” said Kayly.
