The Positron Emission Tomography scan is an imaging test using a tracer (radioactive drug) to show both normal and abnormal metabolic activity. A PET scan can often be used to detect the abnormal metabolism in the tracer before other tests like a CT scan of MRI.
PET scans can be effective in detecting a variety of diseases including:
