An Endoscopy is one of several non-surgical procedures in which a flexible tube with a light and a camera (Endoscope) is passed into the body to view the digestive tract. There are several different forms of Endoscopy to view different areas of the body.
- Upper Endoscopy (esophagogastroduodenoscopy) – the endoscope is passed through the mouth into the esophagus and on to the stomach and upper part of the small intestine. This procedure is used to find issues with the upper digestive system.
- Colonoscopy – the endoscope is passed through into the large intestine through the rectum. This procedure is used to find any issues with the lower intestines or to screen for colon cancer.
