United Regional’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program is nationally certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation for providing excellence in cardiopulmonary care.

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Program aims to enhance the wellbeing of individuals with heart conditions or a history of heart
surgery by increasing cardiac fitness, minimizing the risk of future heart issues, and educating patients to enhance overall quality of life and functional mobility. The program is composed of 36 sessions (three days per week – Monday, Wednesday, and Friday – for 12 weeks). A range of class times are available, providing flexibility for patients to tailor the program to their own schedules. Each session lasts approximately one hour and consists of a warm-up, 30 minutes of aerobic activity, and a cool-down. Every session is closely supervised by registered nurses (RNs), respiratory therapists, exercise physiologists, and is under the supervision of a cardiologist. Patients will undergo an initial evaluation including physical examination and resting EKG. From this information, an exercise prescription will be individually formulated for each patient. During the sessions, the patient receives continuous telemetry monitoring of their heart rhythm and heart rate with frequent blood pressure checks. In the case of an emergency, the staff is trained in Advanced Cardiac Life Support by the American Heart Association and emergency equipment is on hand at all times.
